Comparison

HealthAPI vs Health Auto Export

Both apps get your Apple Health data off your iPhone. Health Auto Export sends it out from the phone: to files, Home Assistant, MQTT or your own server. HealthAPI syncs it to your own account, where you pull it over a REST API and Claude or ChatGPT can read it. Which one fits depends on where you want the data to end up.

Health Auto Export facts from its App Store listing (US prices), website and help center, as of 22 October 2026. Either app may change after that.

Health Auto Export

Health Auto Export is an iPhone app (also on iPad, Mac and Apple Vision) that exports more than 150 Apple Health metrics as CSV, JSON, Markdown or GPX. Its website says your data stays on your device, and it needs no account. Manual exports and simple Shortcuts automations come with the one-time Basic unlock; background sync and automations are Premium.

Automations send data out on a schedule: to your own REST endpoint as an HTTP POST with headers you set, to Home Assistant as sensor states, to MQTT, to iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive, to Calendar or by email. Its Premium tier also has an MCP server that runs on the iPhone, for AI clients on the same network while the app stays in the foreground.

Its FAQ notes that Apple doesn't let apps read Health data while the iPhone is locked, and that iOS decides when background work runs, so it can't sync at a guaranteed time. The same applies to HealthAPI's syncing.

HealthAPI

HealthAPI is an iPhone app that syncs your Apple Health data to your own private account, when you open it and in the background as iOS allows. From there you read it two ways:

  • A REST API with your own key: daily and weekly summaries, trends, workouts, raw readings and a full JSON export (reference). Your scripts, spreadsheets and automations call it whenever they run, even when your phone is off.
  • A read-only connector for Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps at https://healthapi.app/mcp. You approve each app on your iPhone, and it can read your data but never change it.

It covers 50 metrics plus workouts and sleep stages. It deliberately leaves out ECG recordings, cycle tracking, medications and symptoms, and it doesn't keep workout routes. Pro allows 100 requests a day and Developer 1,000. There's no Android app yet.

Pick Health Auto Export if

  • You run Home Assistant or an MQTT broker and want health sensors there.
  • You want files, such as a daily CSV in iCloud Drive or GPX routes of your runs.
  • Your server should receive data the moment the phone sends it.
  • You want the data to stay on your devices, with no account anywhere.
  • You need ECG, medications, symptoms, State of Mind or cycle tracking.
  • You'd rather pay once than subscribe.

Pick HealthAPI if

  • You want to ask Claude or ChatGPT about your sleep, training or heart rate on your computer or phone, without being on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone (how).
  • You want code, Google Sheets or n8n to read your data on their own schedule, with no server of yours to receive it.
  • You want your history in one place you can query by day, week or metric.
  • Your iPhone runs iOS 15 or 16.

Questions

Is HealthAPI a Health Auto Export alternative?

For some jobs. Both get Apple Health data off your iPhone, in different ways: Health Auto Export sends it from the phone to files and services you choose, and HealthAPI keeps it in your own account that you, your scripts and AI apps read from. If you need Home Assistant, MQTT or files, Health Auto Export is the one built for that.

Can I use both?

Yes. Each reads Apple Health with its own permission, and neither changes your Health data. You could, for example, send sensors to Home Assistant with Health Auto Export and ask Claude about your week through HealthAPI.

Which one works with Claude and ChatGPT?

Both have an MCP server, built differently. Health Auto Export's runs on your iPhone, on Premium, for MCP clients on the same Wi-Fi while the app stays open. HealthAPI's is hosted at https://healthapi.app/mcp, so Claude on the web, desktop or phone and ChatGPT on chatgpt.com can read your synced data from anywhere, once you approve them on your iPhone.

Does HealthAPI push data to my server or send webhooks?

No. HealthAPI doesn't push. Your server, script or automation asks the REST API for the days it wants, as often as your plan allows. If you need the phone to post data to your endpoint, Health Auto Export's REST API automation does that.

Which one keeps my data on my phone?

Health Auto Export says your data stays on your device and needs no account; it goes only where your exports and automations send it. HealthAPI uploads what you choose to sync to your own private account on its servers, which is what lets you reach it from anywhere. You can export everything as JSON or delete the account in the app.

What does each one cost?

Health Auto Export is free to download, with a $2.99 one-time Basic unlock and Premium at $1.99 a month, $6.99 a year or $24.99 once (US App Store, 22 October 2026). HealthAPI is free for 2 days, then Pro is $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year or Developer $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial when you subscribe.
